Mexican Cooperative Plans New Dairy Plant amid Economic Strategy

Expansion in Local Dairy Production
The cooperative La Conchita has outlined plans to establish a new dairy plant in the southern part of Mexico City, leveraging the area's robust dairy production. The facility is expected to utilize up to four tons of local dairy production daily, significantly impacting the local economy and reducing reliance on imported products.
Strategic Initiative for Economic Growth
Alejandro Fernández Ramírez, representing La Conchita, alongside Morena party local deputy Alejandro Carbajal González, unveiled the project. This initiative aligns with President Claudia Sheinbaum's Mexico Plan, targeting national development in light of potential tariff threats from the U.S. government.
Investment and Impact
The dairy basin, including Xochimilco, Tláhuac, Milpa Alta, and Chalco, produces 37,000 liters of milk daily. With an estimated investment of 10 million pesos, the cooperative plans to build a facility capable of processing two tons per shift. This investment promises quick financial recovery and potential price reductions, such as 160-240 pesos for a kilo of high-protein Chihuahua cheese without vegetable oils, emphasizing its nutritional value compared to beef steaks.
Broader Economic Contributions
Jorge Izaguirre Morones of the Agroemprendedores Rurales cooperative highlighted ongoing efforts to establish a network of rabbit farming cooperatives in Mexico City. Their goal is to standardize production for large-scale vacuum-sealed meat sales while preparing for the upcoming Rabbit Fair in Xochimilco.
