Lancashire crews tackle barn fire at Euxton dairy farm

Fire crews were called to Culbeck Farm on Culbeck Lane at 11.20pm on Wednesday, September 24, after a large barn was found burning. Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service increased its response as firefighters worked through the night to contain the fire.

The building stands on a working dairy farm and measures about 40 metres by 20 metres. It held approximately 250 tonnes of straw. Firefighters also worked to stop the blaze spreading to agricultural buildings nearby.

By midnight, the response included eight fire engines. Specialist officers, a command unit, a water bowser and a drone were also deployed at the scene. The equipment supported efforts to control the fire and monitor the incident.

Six engines were still present at 7.30am while damping-down work continued. Machinery was being prepared to take away straw that had been burnt or was still smouldering inside the barn.

A fire-service spokesperson described the operation as “an ongoing and protracted incident”. Six relief crews had been brought in to maintain firefighting operations while the site remained under the service’s control.

Residents were asked to avoid the area where possible and to shut windows and doors if smoke was affecting them. Drivers were told to take care and keep roads clear so that emergency vehicles could reach the farm.
