The Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers (RABDF) is delighted to announce His Majesty King Charles III as its new Patron. The King, known for his longstanding interest in British farming and passion for the environment, succeeds the late Queen Elizabeth II in this role.

This patronage follows a review of more than 1,000 royal patronages since King Charles III ascended to the throne in 2022, bringing his total to 669. Robert Craig, Chair of the RABDF, expressed that King Charles III's patronage is profoundly significant to the association. "His late mother was our patron for many years, and we are delighted that the monarch is continuing in that role," Craig said.

The RABDF has a long-established relationship with the Royal Family, which has provided vital publicity and recognition for the association and the dairy industry. The Royal Family has supported various dairy awards organized by the RABDF, including the Princess Royal Award, the Royal Dairy Innovation Award, and the former Prince Philip Award, which recognize excellence within the industry.

In addition to his patronage of the RABDF, King Charles III has also been named the patron of the Royal Highland Agricultural Society of Scotland (RHASS). Queen Elizabeth II served as the patron of the Scottish agricultural society for 70 years, and her support was invaluable to communities across Scotland, the UK, and the Commonwealth.

Alan Laidlaw, Chief Executive of the RHASS, commented on King Charles III's patronage, saying, "We are honored and humbled that King Charles III is to continue the Royal Family’s long-standing tradition of supporting Scotland’s agricultural and rural communities through the work of the society." The Royal Highland Show, run by the RHASS, also boasts a long history of Royal Family attendance, and the King's patronage coincides with the society’s 240th anniversary year.

I recently wrote about a conference where the results of the joint project of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council (VAR) with the USAID AGRO Program were summarized. Today, as a result of this event, the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council, on behalf of the agrarians affected by the war, appealed to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine with a request to support the agricultural sector in the occupied and frontline regions.
