Kazakhstan Participates in Developing the First International Standard for Camel Milk
The country is represented by a delegation led by Yerlan Kiyasov, Chairman of the Board of the RSE on the basis of the FGUP 'National Center for Expertise' of the CSEC of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Prior to the session, the delegation participated in the pre-session of the FAO/WHO Coordinating Committee for Europe, where key agenda issues were discussed, including the new camel milk project, in which Kazakhstan is one of the participants in the working group.
The General Director of FAO, Qu Dongyu, the Director-General of WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, and the Chairman of the Commission, Allan Azegele, delivered welcome speeches. The main topics of discussion included:
-
the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the context of food security;
-
improving international standards of the Codex Alimentarius;
-
expanding multilateral cooperation between countries.
On the first day, participants discussed the reports of the 88th and 89th sessions of the Executive Committee of the Commission, outlining priorities for strengthening the global food safety system.
The development of an international standard for camel milk has become one of the key topics of the session. The issue includes defining quality indicators, safety requirements, packaging, labeling, and transportation of the product.
For Kazakhstan, where enterprises for processing and exporting camel milk products (including dry powder) are actively developing, participation in the development of this standard is strategically important — it will allow harmonization of national standards with global ones and expand export opportunities.
A separate symbolic event was the opening of the 'Kazakhstan' hall in the FAO building, designed in the form of a shanyrak — a traditional element of a Kazakh yurt. The interior combines national ornaments and modern design, highlighting Kazakhstan's contribution to the development of international food cooperation.
