A Karnataka Congress MLA, K Y Nanjegowda, has come under scrutiny for his alleged involvement in the sale of jobs within the dairy cooperative KOMUL. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids on the 61-year-old legislator and his associates on January 8, as part of a money laundering investigation related to irregularities in staff hiring at KOMUL and the unauthorized allotment of government land valued at ₹150 crore.

According to the ED, a committee led by K Y Nanjegowda, accommodated 30 candidates recommended by certain politicians for positions at KOMUL. The agency accuses the committee of manipulating the interview process and accepting kickbacks in return. The ED uncovered a "scam" in the recruitment at Kolar-Chikkaballapura District Co-operative Milk Producers Union Limited (KOMUL).

The recruitment committee, chaired by Nanjegowda and four other members, allegedly manipulated the interview process, and selected candidates were sent for training without publicly disclosing the final results, violating board decisions. During the searches, the ED claims that directors of KOMUL and members of its recruitment committee admitted to selling seats for amounts ranging between ₹20-30 lakh per seat.

The ED further alleges that politicians referred candidates for selection, and a total of 30 such references were accommodated. K Y Nanjegowda, as the head of the recruitment committee, is directly implicated in the sale of seats and manipulation of interview marks, according to the ED.

KOMUL, which is the second-highest milk-producing district organization in Karnataka, now faces the fallout from these alleged irregularities as investigations unfold.
