The Indonesian government is collaborating with Kebbi State in Nigeria to enhance dairy and livestock production through a cutting-edge artificial insemination and embryo transfer program.

The initiative is aimed at improving the quality and productivity of livestock, with the potential to transform milk and meat production in the region.

The Indonesian Ambassador to Nigeria, Air Vice Marshal Dr. Usra Hendra Harahap, led a delegation to Kebbi State, where they visited Fulani communities and inspected thousands of cows in preparation for the program. The Ambassador, joined by a technical team, toured facilities in Sabon Garin Goru, Bango Mashekarin Dr. Amina, Unguwar Gagga, and the Livestock Investigation and Breeding Centre (LIBC) in Bulasa.

Building International Agricultural Collaboration
The visit was guided by Fulani leaders and officials fr om the Kebbi State Ministry of Animal Health, Husbandry, and Fisheries, led by Commissioner Hon. Kabiru Usman Alaramma. The Commissioner highlighted the program as a direct result of Governor Nasir Idris’ recent visit to Indonesia, wh ere Kebbi’s livestock potential was showcased.

“This initiative stems fr om the Governor's discussions in Indonesia, emphasizing Kebbi’s vast livestock resources and the importance of leveraging modern agricultural techniques to drive growth,” said Alaramma.

The program is expected to significantly enhance milk production and improve livestock breeds, benefiting the Fulani herders economically.

Potential Economic and Agricultural Impact
Indonesian experts and local officials briefed the Fulani communities on the program’s objectives and long-term benefits. Commissioner for Religious Affairs Hon. Sani Aliyu stressed that the initiative would uplift the livelihoods of herders by increasing milk yields and livestock value.

Ambassador Harahap expressed optimism about the partnership, saying, “The quality of cows here is impressive. This program will improve the productivity and quality of livestock, directly benefiting Fulani communities.”

Community and Government Support
Fulani leaders, including Dikko Yalli of Sabon Garin Goru and Alhaji Garba Dan Umaru of Bango Mashekarin Dr. Amina, welcomed the initiative and assured their full cooperation. “We are ready to support the program, with thousands of cows available for participation,” they stated.

The delegation inspected facilities at the LIBC, wh ere the Ambassador commended the state government for its investment in veterinary services and infrastructure to support the program.

The Ambassador’s visit included key government officials, such as the Commissioners for Animal Health, Religious Affairs, and Information, as well as special advisers. The partnership is expected to strengthen ties between Indonesia and Nigeria while fostering innovation in Kebbi State’s agricultural sector.

This collaboration underscores the potential for international partnerships to drive sustainable development in livestock management and dairy production, with far-reaching economic and social benefits for local communities.
