India: Milk producers says hike in procurement price of milk will not yield fruitful results

In response to the State government's recent announcement of a ₹3 hike in milk procurement, the Tamil Nadu Milk Producers Welfare Association (TNMPWA) expressed skepticism about its effectiveness.

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's decision, made in response to demands from farmer and milk producer associations, was met with appreciation, but many argue that the increment falls short of addressing the challenges faced by both farmers and Aavin.
M.G. Rajendran, the general secretary of TNMPWA, acknowledged the Chief Minister's gesture but highlighted a crucial concern. According to him, while the price hike may benefit farmers currently supplying milk to cooperative societies, it may not be sufficient to lure back those who have shifted to private dairies. Rising fodder prices and production costs have driven farmers towards private dairy companies, and even if Aavin insists on the new procurement price, there is doubt that farmers will comply.
Rajendran emphasized the need for a more substantial increase, suggesting a minimum hike of ₹7 to safeguard the interests of both farmers and Aavin. The debate continues as stakeholders weigh the implications of the announced hike and its potential impact on the struggling dairy sector.
