During the launch event in Chanapara near Kadakkal, the Minister announced that new schemes from the Dairy Development department have already provided up to 20 cows to each farmer in 2023. Additionally, a scheme to offer cows to 64,000 farmers below the poverty line is set to be launched soon. The government is also planning specific schemes for farmers in high-range and coastal areas, extending benefits to fishers and coir workers.

Highlighting the growing interest in the dairy sector, the Minister emphasized the government's commitment to supporting individuals entering this field. She mentioned the inclusion of Kerala in a comprehensive insurance scheme for cows, ensuring that in two years, all cows in the state will be covered by insurance. Furthermore, the cultivation of fodder grass, an essential part of the diet, will be expanded.

Developed by the Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development department in collaboration with the Kerala Livestock Development Board and Kerala Feeds Limited, 'Dairy Next' aims to provide scientific and practical knowledge on cow rearing. The program offers tips on improving milk production while reducing production costs, with the overarching goal of achieving self-sufficiency in milk production.

The scientific diet and practices have been formulated by experts, including the managing directors of Kerala Feeds Limited and Kerala Livestock Development Board. The guidelines also address the prevention of livestock deaths due to the consumption of plants with toxicity, providing farmers with essential information on identifying toxic leaves and grass varieties, along with emergency contacts in case of poisoning.
