Three years since its establishment by the Ekiti State Government, Ikun Dairy Farm Limited (IDFL) is making significant strides in revitalizing the dairy sector in the state.
Through a partnership with Fountain Holdings Limited and Promasidor Nigeria Limited (PNL), the farm serves as a key source of local raw materials for milk production, showcasing the viability of commercial dairy farming with government support and private sector engagement.
With over 200 employees from the local community, led by experienced personnel and supported by veterinary doctors and dairy-trained practitioners, the farm prioritizes cow comfort through vaccinations, proper care, and feeding. Currently housing more than 500 exotic breeds, the farm has initiated daily production of fresh milk, a significant contribution to the growth of the state's economy.
Routinely using insemination techniques to ensure a minimum of 90% heifers, the farm focuses not only on milk production but also on the organic growth of the herd. Additionally, the farm has undertaken a feed project, cultivating over 400 hectares of maize crops, soya beans, and Rhodes grass to ensure feed security for the animals.
The collaborative efforts of the state government, local community, and the management of the farm contribute to its success, with a commitment to driving economic growth, creating employment opportunities, and achieving the farm's goals.
