Health Advocates Urge USDA to Remove Dairy from 2025 Dietary Guidelines
The DGA, published every five years, influences national nutrition policies. Despite evidence linking dairy to health issues, the USDA continues to promote milk and other dairy products. Dairy intolerance affects large portions of minority populations in the U.S., particularly Asian-American, Black, and Native American communities. Advocates argue that promoting dairy in the guidelines is inequitable and fails to consider the cultural and health preferences of many Americans.
Switch4Good’s campaign highlights that essential nutrients found in dairy are readily available from other sources, and urges the USDA to align the guidelines with more inclusive, evidence-based practices. The initiative follows the group’s successful 2020 effort to have soy milk recognized as a nutritional equivalent to dairy.
Public comments on the USDA's 2025 guidelines are open, and Switch4Good is encouraging further participation.
