San Antonio-based grocery chain H-E-B is set to enhance its already sizable dairy production capabilities by expanding its milk processing plant at 4710 North Interstate 35 on the South Side. As one of the largest dairy facilities in the Southwest, the expansion aims to further solidify H-E-B's commitment to quality dairy products.

Valentino Lucio, spokesperson for H-E-B, highlighted the company's ongoing commitment to facility improvements, stating, “At H-E-B, we continue to make investments in our facilities across the company, and this includes updates to our San Antonio dairy plant.” The investment, estimated at $60 million, is a private initiative on private land for exclusive use by H-E-B.
The expansion project, scheduled to commence on January 1, 2024, and conclude by July 5, 2025, involves significant additions to the existing infrastructure. A key element is the construction of a new 4,860-square-foot insulated metal panel room within the facility, facilitating new ultra-high-temperature processing. Additionally, the expansion encompasses the establishment of a new electrical room and a 1,151-square-foot enlargement of the existing steam plant.
Lucio emphasized that the investment would allow H-E-B to accommodate additional partners and boost production capacity for various H-E-B brand products made in Texas, including popular lines such as H-E-B Mootopia, H-E-B Organics, and lactose-free dairy products. This strategic move positions H-E-B to meet growing consumer demand for locally produced, high-quality dairy offerings.
