Gokul’s Big Move: A Raise for Dairy Farmers

Kolhapur Zilla Sahakari Dudh Utpadak Sangharsh Ltd., better known as Gokul Dairy, has introduced substantial changes to benefit its milk suppliers. The cooperative has raised the milk purchase price by Re 1 per litre for both cow and buffalo milk, effective September 1. This initiative is projected to channel an extra Rs 4 to 5 crore into the district economy monthly, offering financial relief to thousands of dairy farmers.
Gokul Dairy is bolstering subsidies for small dairies to manage increasing expenses on materials and labor. Notably, the building grant will rise from Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000, conditional on milk collection. This policy underscores the cooperative's effort to fortify the agribusiness at a grassroots level.
Moreover, modifications to the open cattle shed subsidy requirements encompass more producers by reducing the minimum animals needed from five to four. This measure anticipates wider participation in dairy farming, an initiative aligning with Gokul’s intent to boost its daily milk collection from 16 to 20 lakh litres.
Gokul Dairy’s president, Navid Mushrif, emphasizes that these steps aim to render “justice to the work of milk producers,” highlighting exemplary cooperative support to ensure sustainable growth amidst economic pressures.
