Fernglen Farm in Wairarapa, New Zealand, has diversified its operations by introducing a sheep dairy component. Initiated six years ago by Cameron Ravenwood, the decision was inspired by both market potential and nutritional benefits.

Each ewe at Fernglen is expected to produce around 250 liters of milk from September to late March. The farm, run by Jeff and Shirley Ravenwood and their children, boasts a unique approach to animal welfare and nutrition. Sheep milk, richer in protein and naturally A2, has been marketed as a viable alternative in the burgeoning dairy market.

Fernglen's commitment to quality saw them become SPCA Animal Welfare Certified in 2021.

They currently milk about 350 ewes, with plans to expand as market conditions allow. Products like flavored milks, yogurts, and cheeses have helped diversify and maximize their production. The Ravenwoods' vision includes future growth and potential export opportunities.
