European Commission Approves €18.2 Million Aid for South Tyrol Dairy Sector

The European Commission has granted approval for a €18.2 million state aid package directed towards the dairy sector in South Tyrol, Italy. This aid is specifically allocated to the Centro Latte Bressanone Società Agricola Cooperativa, a cooperative of dairy farmers located in the province of Bolzano.

The investment is intended to expand the cooperative's current production lines for mozzarella and ricotta and to introduce new products, including burrata. This initiative aims to optimize the production cycle while adhering to high standards of quality and environmental sustainability.

According to the European Commission, the state aid will have a significant positive impact. It is expected to bolster the dairy sector in Alto Adige by increasing the demand for milk from local farmers. Additionally, the aid will enhance the utilization of by-products such as whey, contributing to a circular economy and promoting sustainable production practices.

The EU executive assessed the proposal and found no concerns regarding competition or compliance with state aid procedures, leading to the approval of the package. This measure is part of broader efforts to support local economies and promote sustainable agricultural practices.
