DMK, Germany’s largest dairy cooperative, has initiated steps to acquire full ownership of Mlekoma Dairy, a sales and distribution business in Poland.
Currently, DMK holds a 51% stake in Mlekoma Dairy, a venture operated alongside Saudi group Saudia Dairy & Foodstuff Company (Sadafco).
A DMK spokesperson confirmed that the acquisition is subject to competition approval in Poland. "Our aim is to promote our branded business in Poland," the spokesperson stated, emphasizing the company's focus on expanding its Milram brand within Poland’s foodservice and retail markets.
In 2018, Sadafco, a publicly listed company, acquired the Polish dairy group Mlekoma, which was already in a venture with DMK. This acquisition made Sadafco a partner in Mlekoma Dairy alongside the German cooperative.
The proposed deal, which is pending approval from Polish competition authorities, involves the Mlekoma Dairy sales and distribution operations. However, Sadafco will retain ownership of Mlekoma’s dairy-processing factories in Poland.
Earlier this month, DMK announced plans to close a domestic facility and reduce capacity at three others due to declining milk production volumes.
