Danone's Wexford Plant Advances Sustainability in Irish Dairy Sector
The recent visit by Minister Peter Burke to Danone's supply point in Wexford underscored the plant's critical role in advancing sustainability within Ireland's dairy sector. During the visit, Burke engaged with Danone employees and explored the company's efforts in promoting sustainable growth and innovation.
Danone's Wexford facility has been instrumental in the company's transition to 100% renewable electricity and its broader strategy to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. This initiative is part of Danone's broader sustainability agenda, which includes the Re-Fuel programme aimed at enhancing energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions.
The plant's achievements are not just limited to environmental goals; it is a significant contributor to the local economy, employing 350 individuals, many of whom reside in the surrounding area. This highlights Danone's commitment to community engagement and regional development.
In addition to local employment, Danone Ireland collaborates with regional suppliers and community organizations to support sustainable development and the circular economy. This collaboration is crucial for maintaining a robust network of regional suppliers and service providers.
Deirdre Hannon, the plant manager, expressed pride in the facility's contributions to both the local community and the wider agri-food sector in Ireland. Danone remains a key exporter of specialized nutrition products, reinforcing its role in the global market.
