Danone Partners with Big Ten to Promote Nutritional Products on Campuses
Danone, a leader in nutrition science, has signed a multi-year partnership with the Big Ten Conference to become its first official partner for yogurt and plant-based beverages. This collaboration will bring Danone's Oikos and Silk brands to campuses, providing high-protein and plant-based nutrition options to students and athletes.
The Big Ten Conference is one of the top academic and athletic programs in the United States, with over 14,000 student-athletes and 580,000 students. By partnering with Big Ten, Danone aims to make nutritious products more accessible to support training, recovery, and everyday wellness.
Statistics show that 51% of Generation Z is actively trying to increase their protein intake, and Oikos, being the top high-protein yogurt brand, fits well with these nutritional goals. Additionally, 60% of Gen Z looks for brands that reflect their values, such as sustainability and well-being, which aligns with Silk's plant-powered nutrition offerings.
Danone plans to launch programs that expand access to nutritious meals, collaborate with university nutrition leaders, and conduct educational initiatives to foster lifelong healthy habits. These efforts will coincide with athletic events and retail promotions to enhance brand experiences on campuses.
According to Dan Magliocco, President of Danone North America, the partnership is aimed at helping students and athletes thrive by providing nutrient-dense products. Dr. James Borchers, Big Ten Conference Chief Medical Officer, emphasizes the partnership's role in building lasting healthy habits for students.
Danone's manufacturing presence in the U.S., including its largest yogurt facility in Minster, Ohio, which overlaps with Big Ten schools, further strengthens the connection between local agriculture, student life, and community health.
