Dairy Council NI’s Strategic Alliances Boost Dairy Sector Growth

The Dairy Council for Northern Ireland (DCNI) has emphasized the importance of forging relationships with similar organizations throughout Europe and beyond. This strategic approach has resulted in resource pooling that enhances collaborative programs beyond what could be achieved independently.

According to the DCNI, its long-term commitment and membership in the European Milk Forum (EMF) stands as a valuable partnership. DCNI chief executive Ian Stevenson highlighted that this investment yields substantial returns for both Northern Ireland's dairy industry and its local consumers. He noted, "It is a non-profit organisation which plays a vital role in driving the strategic development, management, and exchange of integrated information initiatives on milk and dairy across Europe."

The EMF board convenes quarterly to strategize and implement plans that underline the critical role of dairy in agriculture. The forum's activities are grounded in a commitment to promoting the sustainability of dairy production and its nutritional value to health professionals and academics.

Membership in EMF extends across nine European countries, including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Norway, and Switzerland. Stevenson highlighted that the DCNI was a founding member of the EMF, showcasing leadership in promoting dairy to a wide audience with innovation. Through successful access to EU promotional funds, the forum has funded initiatives that impact dairy’s role in a healthy diet and lifestyle.

Stevenson added, "This approach has allowed forum members to interface with various stakeholders across Europe and beyond meaningfully." He stressed that resources developed through the EMF have been adapted locally by DCNI to communicate the evolving narrative of the dairy sector in Northern Ireland.

The DCNI’s ongoing efforts reflect a proactive strategy ensuring sustainable growth and innovation in the dairy industry.
