Chile Shows Global Dairy Strength

In a recent webinar organized by the International Dairy Federation (IDF-FIL), Fedeleche presented a comprehensive overview of Chile's dairy sector. According to Fedeleche, 51% of small producers contribute a mere 10% to the overall milk production, while medium and large-scale producers account for 14%/13% and 35%/77% respectively. In 2024, the average price paid to producers was 0.47 USD/L, with per capita consumption at 139 L/year, which, while below FAO recommendations, indicates room for growth with value-added products.

Exports reached 261 million USD, driven by butter, infant formulas, and condensed milk, while imports fell by 3.7%, underscoring opportunities for the domestic market. Chile is noted for its high sanitary standards, traceability, and a strategic focus on niche markets, along with international cooperation to enhance competitiveness. Caterina Juri highlighted the advancements in sustainability through public-private initiatives like the Chile Origen Consciente label, positioning Chile as an environmental benchmark in the dairy sector.
