Bolsa Mercantil Opens Milk Auctions and Reinforces Price Fund

Bolsa Mercantil Launches New Milk Auction Cycle
The Bolsa Mercantil of Colombia has launched a new cycle of auctions for powdered milk, pasteurized milk, and fresh or matured cheeses of national origin. This initiative is aimed at strengthening the production chain, absorbing raw milk, and ensuring fairer prices.
In 2024, the Bolsa Mercantil negotiated over $29 billion in dairy products. This year, an additional $2.5 billion will be invested to bolster the price stabilization fund.
Support for 350,000 Families
Maria Ines Agudelo, President of the Bolsa Mercantil, highlighted that the auctions are backed by the Price Stabilization Fund, aimed at benefiting 350,000 families whose livelihoods depend on the dairy industry.
"The Bolsa Mercantil serves as a platform allowing producers, particularly small ones, to market their products in a structured manner and access fair and competitive prices. This program aims to ensure market stability and build industry confidence to continue investing in growth," Agudelo explained.
Twice-Monthly Auctions
The auctions will be conducted twice a month starting in March. The process, supported by Colombia's Ministry of Agriculture, involves a price-tracking unit that will set and update reference prices quarterly.
"These auctions give buyers the opportunity to access available lots through our negotiation platform, ensuring secure, transparent transactions aligned with market conditions," Agudelo added.
