Amul and Mother Dairy Increase Milk Prices Due to Rising Costs

On May 14, 2026, two of India's largest dairy brands, Amul and Mother Dairy, implemented a nationwide increase in milk prices. This price adjustment affects various milk categories, including full cream, toned, cow, and buffalo milk. The decision comes as a response to escalating procurement and operational expenses.

The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which operates Amul, raised prices by ₹1-2 per litre. For instance, Amul Gold milk in a one-litre pack is now priced at ₹70, up from ₹68, while Amul Taaza has increased to ₹57 per litre, from ₹55. Similarly, Mother Dairy has adjusted prices across its range of products, including full cream and double-toned milk.

The price modifications are part of a broader trend in India's dairy industry, driven by persistent inflation in cattle feed, transportation, packaging, and milk collection costs. Both cooperatives and private dairy players have been revising retail prices since 2022 to accommodate these rising costs.

According to industry sources, the changes underscore the ongoing challenge of balancing consumer affordability with sustainable returns for milk producers in India, the world's largest milk-producing country. The adjustments are intended to reflect the increased costs and ensure the viability of the supply chain.
