During the "Corporate Sustainability Practices" session at the United Nations Climate Change Conference "COP28" in Expo City Dubai, UAE, on December 3, 2023, Almarai's Executive Vice President of Foodservice, Mohammed Alshuhail, shared significant achievements in the company's sustainability journey.
Alshuhail commenced the session by providing insights into Almarai's remarkable evolution over its 45-year history—from its humble beginnings in the desert with a few cows and employees to becoming the world's largest vertically integrated dairy company. With approximately 200,000 cows and the highest milk production per cow globally, Almarai operates across nine countries on five continents, boasting a diverse workforce of over 40,000 employees representing more than 60 nationalities.
Highlighting the scale of Almarai's operations, Alshuhail emphasized that, despite being primarily a food and beverage manufacturer and distributor, the company is recognized as the largest logistics entity in the Middle East, managing a fleet of over 10,000 trucks for product distribution.
Alshuhail outlined Almarai's strategic five-year plan, rooted in three core pillars: caring for people, protecting the planet, and producing responsible products. He proudly announced that, although the targets are set for 2025, many have already been achieved or are ahead of schedule.
One standout accomplishment Alshuhail showcased was the reduction of diesel consumption in the UAE by over 25% within just four years. He highlighted the company's commitment to sustainability by replacing a significant portion of diesel with biofuel—a noteworthy achievement in the pursuit of environmentally responsible practices.
Almarai, known as the world's largest vertically integrated dairy company, holds the position of the largest food and beverage producer and distributor in the Middle East. The company operates multiple food and beverage production facilities across the Middle East, with eight factories situated in the Kingdom and others strategically located in the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Jordan.
