£1.1 Million Available for UK Dairy Innovation Projects: New Funding Round Announced
The Digital Dairy Chain is gearing up for the second round of its Collaborative Research and Development Funding Competition, commencing on May 6th. With £1.1 million in grant funding up for grabs, the competition aims to support innovative projects focused on enhancing dairy production and the supply chain.

Last year, the Digital Dairy Chain project allocated £2 million in grant funding during the inaugural contest, which attracted applications primarily from across Cumbria and South and West Scotland. Seven winning projects received grants ranging from £200,000 to £350,000, fueling transformative work in the dairy industry.

Stuart Martin, Programme Director of the Digital Dairy Chain, emphasized the high demand for research and development in the dairy sector, citing the impressive response to the 2023 collaborative competition. Martin highlighted the industry's readiness to embrace funding, support, and expertise, foreseeing transformative innovation as the ultimate outcome.

Martin urged prospective applicants to carefully review the competition guidelines on the Innovate UK website and participate in online Q&A sessions or briefing webinars to optimize their chances of success.

Professor Des Gibson, leader of Albasense, a winning project from 2023, offered valuable advice for applicants preparing to submit proposals. Stressing the importance of clearly articulating the problem to be addressed, associated cost-effective intellectual property, and the project team's capability to execute and manage the work, Gibson emphasized the significance of analyzing market opportunities, entry routes, and unique selling points.

Administered by the UK's national innovation agency, Innovate UK, the competition presents a promising opportunity for dairy sector innovators to drive progress and make significant strides in dairy technology and production methods.
