The National Milk Producers Federation has secured new funding from the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service’s Animal Disease Preparedness and Response Program. This financial support will be directed towards two pivotal projects aimed at enhancing disease preparedness within the dairy sector.
USA: New Grants Boost Dairy Industry's Disease Preparedness Efforts
The first project builds upon a previous grant awarded in 2021, which was used to develop the National Dairy Farmers Assuring Responsible Management (FARM) Biosecurity Program. This initiative equips dairy farmers with essential resources to safeguard their herds and employees against both common and foreign animal diseases.

The second project involves a collaborative effort among various stakeholders, including dairy cooperatives, milk haulers, testing laboratories, and health officials at both state and federal levels, as well as directors from the National Animal Health Laboratory Network. Together, they will conduct a comprehensive gap analysis and produce a report that provides current capabilities and guidance. This report will focus on implementing a diagnostic strategy for foot-and-mouth disease using bulk tank milk samples, facilitating effective herd-level disease surveillance in case of an outbreak.
