John Murphy, Chair of Tirlán, emphasized the cooperative's commitment to standing by its members in times of difficulty. "The exceptional rainfall affecting farmers in our catchment area is causing significant physical, financial, and mental stress," Murphy stated. "As a farm-family owned co-op, it's our responsibility to support our members when challenges arise."

The support package features a 3c/L "weather payment" on all March milk volumes, covering liquid milk, autumn calving, and fixed milk price schemes. Additionally, the initiative extends the existing €30/t weather support payment on GAIN dairy feed until April 27th. To address cash flow concerns, Tirlán has increased the early interim payment proportion from 50% to 60% for April milk paid in May. Furthermore, the fertiliser credit scheme has been extended until the end of May.

Recognizing the immediate financial needs of suppliers, Tirlán has established an advance payment scheme to provide cash flow support. This voluntary scheme offers milk suppliers an advance of 5c/L based on March milk volumes. The advance payment, provided interest-free, aims to offer approximately €3,000 of support to an average milk supplier, to be offset against actual milk payments due over the peak months of May, June, and July of 2025.

Seán Molloy, Tirlán's Chief Executive Designate, affirmed the cooperative's dedication to assisting farmers, stating that staff are available to provide support. Moreover, Tirlán is actively exploring options to support tillage farmers amidst the evolving situation, underscoring their commitment to standing by all members of the agricultural community during these challenging times.
