Industrial action in Bavaria’s dairy industry is poised to escalate after second-round wage negotiations between Gewerkschaft Nahrung-Genuss-Gaststätten (NGG) and 27 dairy companies, including Danone, Ehrmann, and Nestlé, failed last week.
The NGG union announced that the talks, which lasted approximately 12 hours, ended without an agreement. Since then, the union has issued notices of “warning strikes,” initiating actions at the Würzburg dairy and during the early shift at Danone’s Ochsenfurt-Goßmannsdorf plant, where about 50 employees participated.
The 27 affected companies also include Andechser Molkerei, Bauer, Bergader, BMI, Edelweiss, Goldsteig, Hochland, Karwendel, Meggle, Stegmann, and Zott.
Employers have offered a 4% wage increase, but the NGG stated that this offer is not negotiable and falls short of their demands. The union has indicated that further industrial action is imminent if a satisfactory agreement is not reached.
