Stephen Cain, Senior Director of Research and Economic Analysis for NMPF, delivered a presentation at the DairyWest Board meeting on May 8 in Twin Falls, Idaho. His discussion, conducted in collaboration with USDEC, centered on global supply and demand dynamics, U.S. production trends, and potential export opportunities for U.S. dairy products moving forward.
Additionally, Dr. Peter Vitaliano, NMPF’s Vice President for Economic Policy and Market Research, addressed attendees at the Southeast Milk Inc., Leadership Experience (SMILE) in Tampa, Florida, on May 15. Vitaliano provided insights into current economic conditions and offered projections on future dairy prices. The SMILE event serves as a platform for nurturing leadership skills among farmers in the southeastern United States.
The outreach extended beyond economics to include discussions on trade and policy. Tony Rice, Trade Policy Director, engaged with industry stakeholders at the Agricultural Transportation Coalition conference in Tacoma, Washington, from May 20-23, focusing on supply chain challenges and security issues such as cargo pilferage.
Shawna Morris, Executive Vice President for Trade Policy & Global Affairs, participated in the International Trademark Association meeting in Atlanta on May 20-21. As a member of the association’s Geographical Indications (GIs) Committee, Morris contributed to developing recommendations that influence global policies on GIs and common names.
The month concluded with NMPF and USDEC representatives attending the Eucolait conference in Bordeaux, France, from May 22-24. Jaime Castaneda, Executive Vice President for Policy Development & Strategy, and Monica Ganley, an economist from the USDEC team, presented at the conference, with Ganley focusing on issues relevant to Latin American dairy exporters.
These gatherings underscore the commitment of NMPF and USDEC to keeping the dairy community informed and engaged with the latest economic and trade developments affecting their industry.
