Mexico: Milk Price Increase Offers Relief to Producers in Sonora

José Pedro Cervantes García, manager of the Local Livestock Association of Milk Producers in the Valle del Yaqui, has announced a much-needed 50-cent increase in milk prices. This news comes after a stagnant period of 20 months without any changes in milk pricing, offering a breath of relief to the producers in the region.
While this price adjustment is a welcomed financial relief, Cervantes pointed out that it does not entirely quell the ongoing challenges faced by producers. The situation in the Yaqui Valley remains complex, with a lack of forage crops, especially alfalfa, which has negatively impacted livestock production.
Despite these obstacles, milk production has managed to maintain high levels, with a total of 50,000 liters produced across various production zones. As the farming community embraces this increase, broader solutions are still necessary to ensure long-term stability and growth within the sector.
