Galician cheeses make a mark with eight medals at GourmetQuesos, with Fontelas and Galmesán securing gold.

The prestigious GourmetQuesos competition, held annually at the Salón Gourmets in Madrid, announced its award winners, and Galician cheeses were among the top contenders.
This year, Galician finalists emerged from a pool of over 800 participants across Spain, securing three gold, three silver, and two bronze medals. Notably, the Fontelas Cremoso by Javier Piñeiro López from Vilalba was awarded top honors for young cow's cheese, with third place going to the Anzuxao from the DOP Arzúa Ulloa.
In the aged cow category, Galicia swept the podium with gold for Galmesán from Arzúa, silver for Santo André Curado from DOP Cebreiro by Carlos Reija Fernández, and bronze for Palo Santo do Camiño from Central Lechera Gallega.
Savel by Airas Moniz stood out in the blue cheese category, earning both silver in GourmetQuesos and a Gold Cheese From Spain Award from ICEX, underlining its export potential. Completing the list of winners, Catadoiro from DOP San Simón da Costa achieved silver in the smoked category. The competition continues as the Gourmetquesos jury will soon announce Spain's best cheese, with Savel vying for the Champion Gold prize.
