The South Dairy Trade report from Argentina reveals a promising surge in dairy exports in March, with notable increases in price, volume, and market diversity.

In the second half of March 2025, Argentina's dairy export sector witnessed a meaningful recovery, characterized by increases in key export indicators. The average price per tonne exported rose by 7%, reaching USD 3,835.34 from USD 3,810.09 recorded in the first half of the month. Additionally, the volume of exports saw significant growth, totaling 13,941.61 tonnes – a 24.6% increase compared to the 11,185.84 tonnes from the early March period.
Furthermore, market diversification reached new heights, with 33 international markets compared to the previous count of 29. Looking at March overall, Argentina exported a total of 25,127.45 tonnes of dairy products at an average price of approximately USD 3,823 per tonne. This demonstrates a positive performance in both value and volume, with noticeable consolidation during the latter part of the month, suggesting perhaps a seasonal boost or rising international demand toward the end of the quarter. In product specifics, whole milk powder saw a price of USD 4,115.18 with a 1.31% increase and 894.83 tonnes exported.
Skim milk powder faced a price dip of 7.89% to USD 3,154.84, with 498.28 tonnes exported. Among cheeses, semi-hard cheese dropped slightly in price by 0.06% to USD 4,677.19, shipping 683.44 tonnes, while hard cheese increased slightly by 1.10% to USD 6,411.94 with 587.01 tonnes exported. Butter showed a notable price increase of 4.09%, reaching USD 6,566.97, with 492.33 tonnes moved. In Uruguay, however, the dairy market in April demonstrated a slight decline. The average export price decreased by 0.77% to USD 3,870 from USD 3,900.12 in the first half of the month. The export volume also fell by 9.97%, dropping from 7,901.36 tonnes to 7,113.89 tonnes by the month's end. Despite the downturn in the latter half of April, Uruguay's total milk product exports reached 15,015.25 tonnes at an average price of about USD 3,885 per tonne. The data suggests a moderate bearish trend likely linked to seasonal adjustments or a slight dip in global demand.
