The recent price hike announced by Amul and Mother Dairy for their milk, curd, and buttermilk products will not affect the prices of sweetmeats and ice cream in Bengaluru, according to local vendors.
Amul Price Hike Unlikely to Affect Bengaluru's Sweetmeats and Ice Cream
The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets products under the Amul brand, has raised milk prices by Rs 2 per litre and Rs 1 per half litre. However, Amul does not sell milk in Karnataka and has not announced any increase in the prices of other products such as butter, paneer, and ghee.

Local businesses, including restaurants and ice cream parlours, have confirmed that they primarily use Karnataka's homegrown milk brand, Nandini, and therefore will not be impacted by the Amul price hike. Notably, Kanti Sweets and Anand Sweets, two well-known sweet chains in Bengaluru, stated that their prices for milk-based sweets will remain unchanged due to their reliance on Nandini.

PC Rao, president of the Bruhat Bangalore Hoteliers Association, commented, "The use of Amul milk for commercial purposes in the city is unheard of. For other products like butter and paneer, we do use Amul, but there has been no update on price increases for these items."

The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), which owns the Nandini brand, has no plans to raise the prices of its milk and other dairy products, confirmed its managing director, MK Jagadish. The price of half-litre Nandini Pasteurised Toned Milk remains steady at Rs 22.
