57.9 kg of milk and dairy products were consumed on average by residents of Kazakhstan during the second quarter of 2024

The Bureau of National Statistics has published data on household food consumption in Kazakhstan for the second quarter of 2024. The largest portions of food expenditures were on meat and meat products (17.2%) and bread and grain products (7.9%), writes Dairynews.today, citing data from Kazakhstan’s Bureau of National Statistics.
At the same time, milk and dairy products are consumed more than any other food by the residents of Kazakhstan.
The average per capita food consumption figures for the second quarter of 2024 were as follows:
Milk and dairy products – 57.9 kg
Bread and grain products – 30.4 kg
Meat and meat products – 20.2 kg
Fruits – 16.5 kg
Potatoes – 11.1 kg
Sugar, jam, honey, chocolate, confectionery – 10.6 kg
Eggs – 50.6 units
Fish and seafood – 3.5 kg
By region, the highest consumption of milk and dairy products, according to the agency, is in the Akmola region (76 kg per capita), while the lowest is in the city of Shymkent (39.9 kg).
It is noteworthy that over the past 5 years, the highest levels of milk and dairy product consumption were recorded in 2020 (259.4 kg per capita). In 2023, Kazakhs consumed 227.2 kg of dairy products. During the first period of 2024, there was slightly lower milk and dairy product consumption compared to the second quarter (56.3 kg versus 57.9 kg).
As for meat, the highest levels of consumption were recorded in the Mangystau, Atyrau, and Zhetysu regions, while the lowest meat consumption was noted in the city of Shymkent.
