According to Jordan Bardell, EU enlargement will have a negative impact on its members. “I oppose any expansion of the EU in principle. Accepting new members would weaken the states that founded this community,” the politician said.
Following the results of the first day of the European Union summit, held in Brussels on December 14-15, the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, reported that the community countries had decided to begin negotiations on the accession of Ukraine and Moldova. The summit also announced the granting of candidate status to Georgia and promised to return in March 2024 to consider opening EU accession negotiations for Bosnia and Herzegovina if it fully meets all admission criteria by that time.
