Rospotrebnadzor has imposed a ban on the import of dairy products and cheeses from two of the largest Azerbaijani enterprises, Atena LLC and Azaqro-Sp LLC, from September 30, 2024.

The decision was made based on a video visit by Russian specialists to the plants, where serious violations in the conditions of storage of products and operation of equipment were revealed. This called into question the safety of goods such as butter, ayran, sour cream and cheeses, including feta cheese.

The companies declare the high quality of their products and are ready for inspections, but certification for import to Russia has been temporarily suspended. The decision has caused active discussion in the industry, and experts continue to monitor the situation.

Against the backdrop of restrictions on dairy products, Azerbaijan is expressing interest in importing Russian products. On September 4, a business mission of Russian agricultural export companies, organized by Agroexport and the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, was held in Baku. The round table discussed strategies for working in the retail and HoReCa segments, where the Azerbaijani side noted the growing demand for products, including dairy products, both traditional and plant-based.

Representatives of Russian companies such as Miratorg, Molvest and others shared their successful experience of exporting to Azerbaijan and plans to expand supplies. Miratorg has been actively operating in the Azerbaijani market for 8 years, and dairy producers, including Komos Group and Syrobogatov, are counting on further deepening cooperation.

The ban on dairy imports from Azerbaijan will not affect active trade relations, and Russian producers continue to increase exports in response to the growing demand for food products in the country.
