New maximum permissible levels (MPL) of residual veterinary drugs in livestock products have been established in the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
New Rules Introduced in the EAEU for Monitoring Veterinary Drug Residues in Livestock Products

The decision to implement these changes was made by the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) and came into effect on July 10. However, producers and sellers are granted a transition period until January 10, 2026, during which they may continue to produce products according to the old technical regulations.

The changes affect products such as fats and oils, milk and dairy products, meat and meat products, as well as fish and fish products. Strict MPLs have been set for 75 veterinary drugs, including the widely used antibiotic amoxicillin. Specifically, the content of amoxicillin in meat must not exceed 0.05 mg per kilogram; otherwise, the product will not be allowed for sale.

The new rules also provide for monitoring residual amounts of veterinary drugs not registered in the EAEU, which is particularly important for imported products. Control functions are assigned to raw material producers and livestock owners, who are required to provide data on the use of veterinary drugs over the past two months. This information must be recorded in accompanying documents or transmitted via electronic systems, depending on the legislation of the EAEU member state where the producer is registered.

The primary mechanism for ensuring compliance with these regulations will be state monitoring of chemical contaminants in food products.

The new rules eliminate inconsistencies between previous technical regulations, creating a unified legal framework for safe and high-quality livestock production in the EAEU.
