Dairy Export Declines in Uruguay

Uruguay experienced a significant decline in the export of dairy products in January, with a notable decrease of 12% in the volume of whole milk powder exported compared to the previous year. The export revenue from dairy products amounted to $79.8 million, representing a 3% decline from January 2024.

The most substantial drop was observed in cheese exports, which fell by 30%, totaling $8.7 million. In contrast, butter exports demonstrated a growth of 55%, reaching a total of $9.1 million.

Whole Milk Powder Leads Revenue

Whole milk powder remains the leading product in terms of revenue, generating an income of $51.7 million, although this represents a 2% decrease from the previous year. Skimmed milk powder exports also saw a decline, amounting to $4.3 million, a 5% drop.

Volume Export Analysis

In terms of volume, 13,921 tons of whole milk powder were exported, marking a 12% decrease compared to January 2024. Skimmed milk powder exports amounted to 1,475 tons, a 3% decline.

Butter exports displayed a significant increase of 17% in volume, with 1,442 tons exported. The primary destinations for these dairy exports included Algeria, Brazil, and Mauritania.

In January 2024, Uruguay's National Milk Institute (Inale) reported export revenues of $82 million, a 7% decline from January 2023, largely due to decreasing international prices affecting income despite an increase in sales volume for most products.
