Seventeen of Brazil’s largest dairy processors, including Lactalis Brasil, collected a total of 10.8 billion liters of milk in 2024—a slight increase of 0.7% from the previous year, based on data from the Brazilian Association of Milk Producers (Abraleite). However, this growth rate was below the national average of 3.1%, reported by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), which noted a total of 25.4 billion liters collected across the country.

The sluggish pace of growth has sparked discussion within the industry. "Production increased in 2024, and the ranking shows individual growth and productivity gains among better-structured producers," remarked Abraleite President Geraldo Borges. Yet, he expressed concerns about the rising imports intensifying competition within the sector.

Lactalis Brasil led the sector with 2.7 billion liters, marking an increase of 1.3% compared to 2023. Meanwhile, Piracanjuba ranked second, amassing 1.9 billion liters, a 9.5% rise, while Unium placed third despite a 2.6% decline, registering 1.4 billion liters.

Abraleite's survey revealed that milk sourced from partner producers increased by 2% to 9.4 billion liters, despite a reduction in the number of supplying farms, which fell by 2.9%.
