Tesco reports a surge in demand for high-protein dairy products, driven largely by Gen Z and the influence of social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram. Over the past year, the UK retailer has seen a 34% increase in sales for protein-enriched yogurts, puddings, and drinks, with the market now valued at £204 million annually, according to Kantar.

In response to this trend, Tesco has introduced a dedicated ‘High in Protein’ section within its dairy aisle, specifically targeting yogurt-based products that appeal to health-conscious consumers.

Hollie Bulmer, Tesco’s Buying Manager for Yogurts, commented: “This trend is predominantly driven by younger consumers, who are inspired by influencers showcasing protein-rich culinary creations on social media. The growing interest in the nutritional benefits of protein is not only boosting demand for products like protein yogurts but is also shaping our product range to better meet customer needs.”
