Russia and Vietnam Agreed to Expand Agricultural Projects and Supplies

Moscow and Hanoi intend to create more favorable conditions for Russian investors implementing projects in Vietnam, as well as for Vietnamese companies operating in Russia. These provisions were included in the joint statement following the visit of Vietnam's President To Lam.

The cooperation will cover agriculture, fisheries, and forestry. The parties plan to increase mutual agricultural product supplies, promote them in both countries' markets, and encourage the creation of relevant joint ventures.

A separate focus has been defined on high-tech agriculture. Russia is considering increasing investments in Vietnam, and both countries intend to conduct joint research and transfer technologies, including solutions based on digital tools and artificial intelligence.

Moscow and Hanoi also agreed to continue using the free trade agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union and Vietnam. As part of this cooperation, the parties will work on removing trade restrictions and expanding support for exporters and investors, including in the agricultural sector.

According to the federal center "Agroexport", Vietnam's growing economy, as well as the development of livestock and aquaculture, support the country's demand for grain. In the 2025/26 season, Vietnam imported 7.3 million tons of wheat: about 45% was food grain for the milling industry, while approximately 4 million tons were for feed.

In the first six months ending June 30, wheat imports to Vietnam amounted to 4.8 million tons, which is 58% more than the previous year, according to Vietnamese customs. Additional demand for agricultural raw materials may arise after the introduction of mandatory bioethanol use in all gasoline brands. This measure is expected to change the structure of grain imports and domestic consumption.
