The Federal Consumer Protection Office of Mexico (Profeco) has raised concerns regarding the misleading claims of fat content in certain 'light' cheeses available in the market. According to Profeco, these products fail to uphold their low-fat promises and instead exhibit higher levels of fat than stated.
Exposing the Misleading Products
Profeco's study highlighted the discrepancies in two popular American-style 'light' cheeses that have misled consumers. Kraft Singles Americano Light and Zwan Premium Americano en Grasa have been found to contain higher fat levels than advertised, contradicting their branding of being suitable for health-conscious consumers.
The Fat Content Controversy
Despite claims of reduced fat, these products do not adhere to nutritional standards that would qualify them as 'low-fat.' Kraft Singles Americano Light, for instance, reveals a 58.4% fat content, while Zwan Premium Americano shows a protracted fat level of 11.2%.
This revelation poses significant concerns for consumers who rely on accurate labeling for making informed dietary choices. Profeco urges consumers to critically assess product labels to avoid falling for misleading marketing strategies.
