Profeco Identifies Top American Cheese Brands in Mexico
In a recent analysis, the Procuraduría Federal del Consumidor (Profeco) evaluated American cheeses sold in Mexico, emphasizing brands that meet high nutritional standards. The study identified products that maintain low fat levels while offering higher protein content, crucial factors for authentic processed cheese made from dairy origin.
Profeco's findings highlighted that cheeses from brands such as Kraft, Member’s Mark, and Great Value stand out for their nutritional benefits. Kraft's Singles Americano and Singles Supreme, along with Member's Mark and Great Value, provide between 14% and 15.2% protein content, while keeping fat percentages moderate compared to other market options.
The analysis noted that authentic American cheeses in the study contain between 10% and 15% fat derived from milk. This contrasts with imitation products that utilize non-dairy fat and protein ingredients. Profeco urged consumers to closely inspect labels to ensure the products are genuine dairy-based cheeses.
Furthermore, the report suggested a growing trend in the Mexican food industry toward dairy products with improved nutritional profiles and greater transparency in labeling. This shift influences consumer purchasing decisions and perceptions of quality in the cheese and dairy sectors.
Profeco's evaluations play a significant role in shaping market dynamics by informing consumers and potentially impacting product development and marketing strategies within the industry.
