Farmers in Galicia are concerned as raw milk prices continue a downward trend during the autumn campaign.
Price of Raw Milk Drops for Third Consecutive Month in Galicia

In July, dairy farmers in Galicia were paid 48.3 cents per liter for raw milk, which is below the national average. Galicia still leads in production with 41% of the total national output. According to the monthly report by the Ministry of Agriculture, this marks the third consecutive decline following 48.9 cents in April, 48.8 in May, and 48.4 in June.

Despite the significance of these prices for farm profitability, the state average remains higher at 50.2 cents per liter. This discrepancy concerns Galician producers, especially as the region accounts for a significant 41% of national production. From January to the present, Galicia has produced over 1.81 million tons compared to Spain's total of 4.39 million tons.

In the case of organic milk, Galicia also plays a significant role. The average price in July was 60 cents per liter, slightly below the Spanish average of 61.3 cents. Of the 3,548 tons produced under organic conditions nationwide, 2,458 are sourced from Galician farms, solidifying the region's leadership in sustainable production.

Beyond the figures, the industry faces the challenge of maintaining profitability in a context of tight costs and a market that is stabilizing in terms of prices. There is a strong focus on contract negotiations and competitiveness against other regions.
