New Zealand's milk production saw a 2.2% decrease in milksolids for June compared to the same period last year. This decline is attributed to farmers drying off calving herds, adverse weather conditions in May, and recent milk price forecast announcements.

Fonterra's latest Global Dairy Update reports that the total milk collected in June was 14.5 million kg MS, representing less than 1% of the full season forecast. Over the 12 months leading up to June, New Zealand's milk production fell by 0.8%.

In the United States, milk production dropped by 1% in June, primarily due to the avian influenza outbreak, which led to smaller herd sizes and reduced milk yield per cow. Lower feed costs, however, allowed farmers to provide increased rations to their cattle, partially offsetting the production decrease.

Conversely, Australia's milk production increased by 3.5% in May compared to the same period last year. The European Union also saw a 0.7% rise in May's milk production, driven by ongoing growth in France and Poland. European raw milk prices have increased slightly, reflecting tight supplies in Western Europe. EU milk production for the 12 months to May was up 0.1% compared to the previous year.

New Zealand's dairy exports fell by 6%, or 17,820 tonnes, in June compared to the same month last year, due to reduced demand for whole milk powder and fluid milk products in key markets such as China and Algeria. However, exports for the 12 months to June increased by 0.7%, or 23,264 tonnes, mainly driven by rising demand for skim milk powder (SMP) and cheese from Southeast Asian markets like Indonesia.

In Australia, dairy exports surged by 17.7%, or 9,163 tonnes, in May due to the clearance of additional inventory held this year compared to the previous year. On the other hand, exports from the EU and the US declined by 3.8%, or 22,249 tonnes, and 0.8%, or 1,852 tonnes, respectively, in May.

China's monthly dairy imports decreased by 20.5%, or 58,864 tonnes, in June, driven by lower import volumes of fluid milk products, whole milk powder (WMP), and SMP. For the 12 months to June, imports fell by 12.2%, or 393,790 tonnes, mainly due to a decline in demand for milk powder products as China prioritized local brands.

Elsewhere in Asia, imports rose by 5.6%, or 24,576 tonnes, in May, with higher import volumes of whey by Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand. For the 12 months to May, imports increased by 5.5%, or 268,038 tonnes, driven by higher volumes of WMP by Vietnam and fluid milk products by the Philippines.

In Latin America, dairy import volumes increased by 2.1%, or 4,651 tonnes, while the Middle East and Africa saw a 6.4% rise, or 30,866 tonnes.
