Nestlé invests $1.2 billion in food and beverage production in Brazil
The funds will be primarily used to drive business growth, integrate new technologies into the industry, expand production capacity, transform the portfolio and advance the sustainability agenda in Nestlé's chocolate, coffee, pet care and nutrition segments in Brazil.
Marcelo Melchior, CEO of Nestlé Brasil, commented: “We are Nestlé's third largest market in the world, and the even faster growth of our business requires robust investments on multiple fronts: from expansion and new technologies in factories and supply chains to new regenerative agriculture practices farms, and each portfolio is becoming broader and more diverse, always focusing on solutions that support health, nutrition and well-being from pre-conception to healthy aging.”
Nestlé is planning significant changes to its chocolate and biscuits category, including the introduction of product lines, technologies and new products. In 2024, the new KitKat line will be launched at the Caçapava facility in Sao Paulo, which Nestlé says is already the largest chocolate manufacturing facility in Latin America. In addition, the company intends to expand the industrial park by 2028, opening a total of six exclusive lines in the center of São Paulo.
Additionally, the food and beverage giant said Brazil is on a path of innovation and premiumization of coffee, adding value to the category and driving business growth. Since 2019, all Nestlé coffee purchases have been 100% certified and sustainably sourced. Emphasizing sustainability, Nestlé coffee boasts full traceability of raw materials, use of renewable energy in production, support for in-country capsule processing and investments in regenerative agriculture in the supply chain.
Nestlé Brazil provides specialized nutrition for all life stages and is innovating in these categories, "focusing on different nutritional needs and constantly changing consumption habits," Nestlé said. The range of products includes pregnancy supplements, baby foods and adult products that use exclusive technologies to promote healthy aging.
Marcelo Melchior emphasized: “In 2024, we will continue to invest in productivity, innovation and sustainability, implementing strategic projects on new technologies and product lines to contribute to business results. We will have another peak of investment, accelerating the ESG agenda, innovation and digital transformation, which will support the continued growth of Nestlé Brazil.”
