MEGA to Showcase Electrodialysis Technology for Desalting Dairy Whey at AqAltyn 2026

In his presentation, the speaker will discuss the application of electrodialysis to various dairy processing streams: sweet and sour whey, ultrafiltration permeate, as well as whey protein concentrates and isolates — WPC and WPI. MEGA's systems are based on RALEX ion-exchange membranes.

Electrodialysis allows for the removal of minerals and organic ions from these streams. According to the company, desalting can improve the flavor and thermal stability of ingredients and impact the efficiency of further processing. The resulting components can be used particularly in the production of ingredients for infant, sports, and specialized nutrition.

Yirdasek has been with MEGA for over ten years and has been involved in projects implementing electrodialysis at dairy plants, including in Europe. The company reports more than 100 applications of its technologies in the dairy industry.
