Madhya Pradesh FDA Intensifies Dairy Checks Ahead of Festivals

Enforcement teams from Madhya Pradesh’s Food and Drug Administration conducted targeted inspections at Bhopal’s Inter-State Bus Terminal and Nadra Bus Stand. They confiscated 316kg of milk-based products suspected of adulteration, with the total estimated value placed at approximately ₹78,000.

The seized goods comprised 150kg of mawa, a concentrated milk product, valued at about ₹45,000. The consignment was addressed to Arihant Dairy. Officials also took possession of 166kg of milk cake, estimated to be worth ₹33,000, which had been booked under the name of Lovely Sweets in Bhopal’s Sabzi Mandi.

Shivraj Pawak, the FDA’s chief food-safety officer, said the products were being moved across state lines in bus cargo from Nagpur, Maharashtra, to Bhopal. The authorities collected statutory samples from the consignments for laboratory examination under the Food Safety and Standards Act.

The inspection drive covers dairy products entering Madhya Pradesh from neighbouring states, including Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. Officials cited concerns about the quality and composition of such goods, as well as the possibility that chemicals had been used in their preparation. The seized stock remained subject to laboratory testing, and the available information does not establish that the suspected adulteration had been confirmed.

Demand for milk solids and traditional sweets increases during the festival period in the region. The source report said traders seeking to take advantage of this demand sometimes produce synthetic dairy items using starch, detergent, refined vegetable oils and chemical neutralisers, allowing them to sell at prices below those of products made from pure milk. The latest seizures were made as the FDA increased checks on incoming dairy consignments.
