Lactalis Launches Siggi’s Skyr in UK to Meet Clean Protein Demand

Lactalis, the French dairy giant, is launching its Siggi’s skyr range in the UK, targeting the increasing consumer demand for 'clean protein' products. According to Lise Chevallier, Siggi’s senior brand manager, consumers are becoming more aware of the importance of protein in their diets and prefer products made with simple, recognizable ingredients without artificial additives.

The product rollout includes four SKUs manufactured in France: two 450g pots with 0% and 5% fat content, and a pair of 140g two-packs. The 450g pots are available at Morrisons, priced at £3.25, while the multipacks are set at £2.50. These skyr products offer '50% more protein and 30% less sugar than other yogurts', according to the company.

Siggi’s, acquired by Lactalis in 2018, is positioned as a naturally high-protein yogurt with less sugar and no artificial flavorings or preservatives. The brand is already present in several markets, including France, Belgium, the US, Canada, and Australia.

In the UK, the interest in protein is partly driven by the rising use of GLP-1 weight-loss drugs, as reported by the IGD. Research indicates that 6% of UK adults were using these medications as of March, nearly double from nine months prior. The drugs reportedly alter food preferences, decreasing the appeal of fatty and sweet foods for many users.

The IGD’s findings are based on monthly surveys of over 2,000 UK shoppers, indicating that changing dietary habits are influencing food product development and marketing strategies.
