As a result of military actions in the Kursk region, caused by the invasion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), the region is facing significant losses in the agricultural sector. According to Acting Governor Alexei Smirnov, who spoke at the final meeting of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, due to military actions, 160,000 hectares of fields cannot complete their harvests. This will result in a shortfall of 1.5 million tons of grain, 700,000 tons of sugar beets, and 500,000 tons of oilseeds.

The damage to the agricultural sector is estimated at 85 billion rubles, and this figure continues to grow. According to Smirnov, 94 agricultural enterprises in border areas have been affected, with much of their equipment damaged or taken out of the country. Currently, more than 300,000 tons of grain remain in storage, exacerbating the region's losses. Additionally, it is forecasted that the regional budget will lose 1.4 billion rubles in revenue by the end of 2024.

Significant damage has also been done to the livestock sector: 352,000 heads of livestock have been destroyed. It is expected that this will lead to a reduction in meat production by 85,000 tons and milk by 71,000 tons.

The invasion by the AFU began on August 6, resulting in the occupation of more than 1,300 square kilometers of territory and about 100 settlements. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the intention to hold these territories in order to accelerate negotiations with Russia.

In response, Russian forces launched counter-offensive actions. According to Russian sources, the counteroffensive has led to the recapture of several settlements in the Korenevsky district, including Gordeevka and Vnezapnoe.
