Noting a significant increase in cattle imports in October, he highlighted a 961% surge in payments for cattle imports, totaling $859.6 million for the first 10 months of the year, with $154.1 million in October alone.

Karal criticized the prioritization of imports over supporting domestic farmers and called for measures to address the challenges faced by producers.

Karal reminded that Ezine Cheese is the 18th product to receive geographical indication registration from the European Union and said, “Of course, this is a good development. However, the presence of live animals and, accordingly, milk production is decreasing every day. Producers, especially feed, cannot cover their expenses, people are forced to withdraw from animal husbandry, the presence of animals is decreasing day by day. This situation is also reflected in shelf prices; citizens cannot access milk and cheese, which are increased every day due to the high cost. The weight of this cheese, which has received geographical indication registration, is more than 300 TL on the market. In addition, while global cheese exports are at the level of 40 billion dollars, Turkey exports 203 million dollars annually. Wrong policies, import-oriented approach are making both producers and consumers victims, and our share in exports is crawling on the ground. Unfortunately, getting a geographical indication registration is not a solution in itself. What if we get a geographical indication registration on dairy products that are raised every day after citizens can't eat, what if we don't get it?” he spoke.

He emphasized the need for timely payments, support for domestic production, and prevention of calf deaths and animal diseases.
