Farmers are holding protests in northern Greece, demanding government subsidies and compensation for rising prices for electricity, fuel and weather damage. The newspaper "Efimeris ton Syndacton" reports this.

According to a decision taken at a meeting of farmers in the Thessaly region on Tuesday evening, farmers in the Karditsa region will drive tractors and other agricultural machinery to the E65 highway on Wednesday, and symbolic blockades will be carried out in other places. Farmers on tractors will drive through the main streets of Karditsa and hold a rally there.

On Thursday, farmers fr om Serres intend to drive their tractors onto the Egnatia Odos expressway, as well as onto the Serres-Thessaloniki highway. They will then travel fr om Sere to Thessaloniki, wh ere they will take part in a rally of agricultural workers outside the exhibition center in the northern Greek capital, wh ere the Agrotica exhibition is being held.

Farmers from the Evros region will also hold a protest rally and motorized march on Wednesday. Farmers from the Achaia region on the Peloponnese peninsula are also mobilizing and will gather at the regional administration building on Wednesday, driving through the city of Patras on their tractors.

Farmers are asking for compensation for income lost due to catastrophic rainfall, fires and drought last summer and fall. They, in particular, demand not to tax fuel, to set a ceiling on electricity prices for agricultural enterprises at 7 cents per kWh, to subsidize or cancel VAT on funds and materials. The farmers warned that if their demands are not met by the authorities, they will not leave the streets.
